He takes virtually all his pictures in Dumfries and Galloway as this part of Scotland has almost every subject he needs, sometime referred to   as ‘Scotland in Miniature’.

A warm and muggy evening

Tuesday, 20 July 2010 08:14

Keith Kirk badger photographyIt was a rather nice warm muggy evening so I thought I would go out onto the hill and have a look for foxes. No hide, just lie in wait in some gorse bushes. A bit too warm for the full Stealth Gear suit so a was only using the trousers and a fleece top.

No foxes showed up, but a badger put in an appearance.

Although the ground was damp, no wet bum thanks to the grey protective seating area, the added bonus is it also allows you to easily slide about without standing up, as I had to move down hill slightly. And as for the built in knee pads, well what can I say, no thorns, and no biting my tongue when kneeling on rough ground. Keeping quiet that close to badgers is important.

The badger came so close at one point I could not focus. Oh, if I had only taken the jacket with an extra wide angle lens in the pocket, I suppose there’s alway a next time. Click read more for more images of the badger.

Getting close to wildlife with Stealth Gear clothing

Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:25

Keith Kirk Getting close to wildlife with Stealth Gear clothingGetting close to wildlife is every wildlife photographers dream.  How close you get can depend on many factors, one of the main ones being your clothing.  Stealth Gear by its very name allows you to do just that as this inquisitive red squirrel shows.

These are truly wild Scottish red squirrels and I have tried to get this close before wearing other types of clothing, but even with the slightest movement the other fabrics rustling noise kept the animals very wary.  Had I given them enough time and I suspect they would have loved to make their Drey in the large front padded pocket of my extreme jacket!

Keith Kirk Review of Stealth Gear Photographers Clothing

Keith Kirk Review of Stealth Gear Photographers ClothingWhen I was asked to test the Stealth Gear Extreme suit (Extreme Photographers Jacket Vest/Extreme Trousers 2) I’ll be the first to admit I thought it would just be a few tweaks on the standard outdoor coat and trousers. How wrong was I? I’m really fussy about want I wear as it needs to fit well and be fit for purpose. As soon as you feel the clothing it’s immediately apparent this is quality kit. Completely water and wind proof, and has a nice look and feel to it. The outer shell is made from 100% polyester micro suede and has a moleskin look about it. It is Teflon coated to repel dirt and unwanted coffee stains! We have come a long way since wax jackets.
