Mike lives on Norfolk’s north coast where being up and about before dawn is a way of life. As a tour leader and photographer for more than 20 years, he has travelled to some of the world’s most fantastic locations in search of animals, birds and wild places. To be in wild country at the start of a brand new day is addictive. For Mike, wild places are a passion, whether in pursuit of ethnic peoples, landscapes, giant pandas, tigers, primates or big cats, or at home with foxes, otters and the UK’s other wild creatures – just being there is a privilege. The majority of his year is spent pursuing wildlife here in the UK for clients and stock. The remainder of the year finds him overseas, either working for stock or escorting guests on photographic journeys to capture images of wildlife, peoples and landscapes around the world. Having travelled to more than 60 countries, Mike has a network of friends and experienced, knowledgeable contacts on all continents. In 2000 Mike was a winner in the British Gas Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition in the category “The World in our Hands” and in 2003 he won the “Travel” category in the Royal Geographical Society Photographer of the Year Competition. 2010 will be another busy year and see Mike working for the third year with the He will again run spring and autumn group photo workshops, in addition to his one to one photography tuition sessions. Commissions play an important part in Mike’s year. Recently completed assignments include conservation grade farming and wildlife, species reintroduction programmes, and other conservation themed projects. In 2009 Mike was commissioned to photograph beavers re-introduced to the UK. He captured images of the family and the new-born kits; the young beavers were the first to be born in the UK for 400 years.
