Stealth-Gear Extreme Jacket-Vest
After the snowiest and coldest winter for decades we have just experienced the value of good outdoor gear has never been so invaluable, so the timing of the Stealth gear Extreme Jacket Vest could not have been more timely for me. Have not felt the cold on any day when wearing them and belief me it has been cold ( - 19). It is not only the warmth that has impressed me, many new additions to the Extreme Jacket-vest takes it to another level. Features that impress me particularly are the pads (which can be removed) on elbows and shoulders. For stalking purposes when crawling or lying low to take pictures the elbow pads cushion the elbows perfectly making an uncomfortable situation a lot less so. Pads on the shoulders have also been a great addition, particularly when l am carrying a large lens and tripod, which is the case on most outings so having these takes the pressure of the load has been great.
Like all Stealth Gear clothes pockets abound and perfectly positioned, the large front pockets will comfortable hold a 70-200 f 2.8 lens without it being noticed. Well positioned CF card pockets are also a nice touch. Side zips are easily accessed which help when sitting or gaining access to trouser pockets. Was never sure when I would use the flap down sit anywhere sheet (SAS), however this week a chance encounter with a Dipper on a hill burn proved its worth this week. Getting tucked into a hollow on the bank next to the burn on some wet damp grass I used the SAS which for the next hour or so that I photographed the dipper as it came back and forth made the experience so much more pleasant than sitting there with a wet backside.
One final point is this is not just a jacket, with the removable arms the jacket becomes a vest which gives the added advantage of being more versatility in warmer weather when the jacket could be to warm. Water proof even in the wettest of days this Jacket in my view is the ultimate any outdoor photographer would wish for.
Stealth-Gear Extreme Trousers 2
To compliment the Extreme Jacket-Vest the extreme trousers also takes the trousers up to another level. As I mentioned about the pads on the jacket-vest the trousers also have removable knee pads which I find brilliant, I seem to spent more time on my knees when photographing so having these makes such a difference.
Not something you will use every day but the innovative addition of a removable internal gaiter is great, the amount of snow we had in the Cairngorms this year I could have used them for 3 months. I received the trousers before the last snow fall and found them a great benefit, before this I was so feed up getting snow in my boots in previous falls, so no more will this be the case. Once the weather improves you just take them of till your next snowy encounter the following winter.
Again the trousers are totally waterproof and extremely warm; the ventilation zips are spot on when it does get a bit warmer.
As previously mentioned about the jacket-vest the pockets on the trousers are numerous and well placed, also the various adjustments you can make to the item makes them fit more comfortable.
If you are looking for the best, there is no doubt in my mind the Extreme jacket -vest and trousers are what you should seriously look at, as they have raised the bar very high for all others to try and follow.
